Carl Moroder Carl Moroder was born on February 15, 1961, in Ortisei, a small town amidst beautiful Val Gardena, in the Dolomites region; he lives and works here. In a truly "Gardenese" tradition, he followed his ancestors that for five generations have been sculptors and painters. His inborn creative esprit, certainly inherited from his great-grandfather, took him across Europe, America, and Asia, in search of new motives of inspiration. He has been sculpting for 15 years, establishing and refining through time his own style: his works combine beauty and elegance with strong sentiments, such as love and power. The source of his style derives from Gustav Klimt's art, a famous Viennese painter of the "Jugendstil" period. Moroder was immediately captivated by the magic that emanates from Klimt's works and found in wood relief a new and unique way of representing Klimt's paintings , thus reaching the height of his artistic creation. |
| The reliefs are carved in linden and arolla pine (pinus cembra ) and are painted and partly gilded. The colours and the delicate gold reflections give new depth to these works of art. With incredible intuition and true artistry, Moroder wove together painting and sculpture. The result is unique! The original grandeur of Klimt's famous painting "The Kiss" acquires a new dimension. Of particular interest is a wooden chair, painted and gilded, decorated with little puzzle-like triangles. | ![]() |

This chair is for Moroder the representation of the Tree of Life: the decorations depict the river of life and other natural elements such as water, fire, the sun, and the moon, that strongly influence human existence. The colours used for the reliefs are tempera with natural dyes made according to a XIVth century recipe; the base of the relief is treated with a chalk-base paint and a special "erasing technique" to make the surface look cracked and aged, like an antique.
